Things I miss about my old life:
Family.
The house we built from scratch.
My special cat - Mufasa.
Spring that is warm.
Summer that is warm, not hot.
The African bush.
Thunder showers.
My garden I built from scratch.
My dad.
My brother.
My sweetie's family.
The children having cousins to play with.
A country that has real soul.
Christmas with the family.
Birthdays with the family.
Popping around to Arshad and Vallie's on a Sunday afternoon for no reason.
Family.
Family.
Family.
We moved here so that our family would have a better life.
We do.
I love my life.
But I miss my old life.
I wouldn't change what we have done.
But the ache in my heart is so sore.
So sore.

ReplyDeleteI feel it
I understand my love.
I understand.
Together we will weather this...
Oh Ola, I can very much sympathise with you - all my family is on the other side of the world.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to make a new life in a new country, and it is very hard to not have any extended family support when you have a young family.
The ache will always be there. Sometimes just a subtle feeling, other times like this - overpowering.
It will get better.
Be gentle to yourself.
beautiful post - i feel your sadness.
ReplyDeleteMy husband is from South Africa, and I lived there too for a while. While I do have family over here, it has taken a number of years (7!) for us to truly feel as though we are home. We miss a lot about South Africa...mainly family and friends...but know the life we are providing for our children is worth the pain. (I miss buttermilk rusks!!!). I really feel for you and hope that you are able to find a home for your heart here.
